Nearly 200 Canadians and 800 Americans attended the North American Beekeeping Convention in Orlando Florida, 12-16 January, 2010. The CHC set up a booth at the annual trade show where exhibitors included large and small manufacturers of processing equipment, protective clothing, beekeeping supplies, T-Shirts, bee souvenirs, hive monitoring, books on beekeeping plus lots more. It made a very colourful exhibit arena. Government agencies for the United States were giving out facts and figures on the U.S. Beekeeping Industry and free pens were in abundance.

The Canadian Honey Council booth was set up with a display showing what the CHC does for Canadian Beekeepers. The three panels (see front cover of February Hivelights) illustrated Pollination, The CHC and how it operates and information on the CHC's four strategic priorities

Hive Health (Save Our Bees)
Food Safety (C-BISQT)
Market Access/Share (Pure Honey 100% Canadian and its Health benefits).
Labour and Succession (Education, Kids and Honey)

2500 samples of Pure Honey 100% Canadian were handed out. The flavours included Buckwheat, Clover (liquid & Organic Creamed), Canola and Blueberry. Rick Belt, Golden Acres Honey, packed the sample jars of honey and labelled them with our logo Pure Honey 100% Canadian. We had rave reviews on the quality and taste of Canadian honey.
In return for a honey sample visitors were asked to complete a survey on honey purchasing and the kind they preferred. The survey was very popular and all the samples were given out. Results of the survey will be available online next month.
We also handed out copies of Hivelights magazine, the IPM poster, Kids & Honey booklets and the new Honey for Health brochure which was in great demand. The brochure had also been produced in Spanish for the South American and Mexican beekeepers who attended the show.
The next North American Convention will be held in Galveston Texas 4-8, 2011.
The CHC Directors all took turns in manning the booth and they were pleasantly surprised at the number of Canadians who had come down to Orlando for the Convention and Trade Show.
After a very hectic four days the trade show closed Saturday at noon. All the dealers and exhibitors agreed it had been very successful Trade Show.
